Basalt is a volcanic stone that has been used in architecture for centuries. It is a porous material with naturally occurring holes. The fissures and small holes in the surface are evidence of the earth’s natural gasses flowing through and escaping from the stone.
The stone has a very rich history dated back to Roman times when it was used by the ancient Romans to build roads and monuments. Nowadays it is still a very popular material that is used in architecture for facade application, paving and roads. Although Basalts boast the durability of granite, it tends to have consistent coloration and markings of a limestone.
